June, 2025 Update
I can count on one penis how many good news stories I’ve had with wildlife lately… Much less in the ‘forgotten drought’ where nearly no-one even knows the current crisis our animals are in ![]()
By way of a backstory – the last few weeks, things have been truly shitful here.
There’s no rain and no grass.
Winter looks bleak as fuck.
I’ve got enough control over my own animals to organise euthanasia when required.. but watching the wildlife suffer has been taking a toll.
And I realise that some people give no fucks about wildlife. That’s ok…but some of those people began trolling me which was not ok.
They were smirking and insuating that I created this mess (Yep, Lachlan Gall, from the Pastoralists Association of West Darling- you can eat a bag of dicks
)
But for anyone that’s followed the mis-gendered story of Mr Wendal, the mangey wombat I hope this brings you as much happiness as it did me.
If you missed it, the abbreviated story is as follows:
I saw a catastrophically mangey wombat in early January, 2025. This is a photo from that day.

The first rescue suggested euthanasia but thankfully the second rescue persisted with a dose of Bravecto* (all credit to the lovely Jayde from Mange Management). She scouted around for over an hour before finally tipping a dose down the wombat’s back.
Over the following weeks, I trained my new friend with positive reinforcement (associating snacks with the song Mr Wendal) to give supportive treatment with my balms from the farm.
I was more surprised than anyone that it actually worked… but after about 10 days, she started coming towards me (and the snacks) whenever the song was played.
After daily treatments – many months later – I’m not going to lie…It started to feel disheartening. It felt like there wasn’t much improvement.

I ‘upskirt’ photo bombed my friend… and despite my confusion in identifying pouches vs buttholes.. it turned out Mr Wendal was Ms Wendal.
She’s pretty much ’normal’.. she looks fabulous and I might say, and unlike her droughty sorority sisters – has a lovely lustre to her coat (must be all that rosemary spray
)
I’ve included a few photos from first sighting to tonight and will add tonight’s video in the comments because I know that there are many of you that do give fucks about wildlife and we rarely get to see a good outcome ![]()
Thanks for reading – I hope seeing her improvement has given you joy.

Hi Jemima
Thank you for supporting wildlife, and in particular this wombat. What an amazing journey with her . Our beautiful wildlife need supporters like you. I live in a rural area and know how disheartening it can be when many show no regard or kindness towards them.
